Hello! How can we help you?

How to get a rollator for a person with a disability in Chile?

1. What is the SENADIS Assistive Technology Program?

The Assistive Technology Program, administered by SENADIS, fully or partially finances support devices or assistive technology required by people with disabilities to improve their functionality, autonomy, or independent living.
For example, although the catalog focuses on many devices (wheelchairs, hearing aids, etc.), it may also include mobility aids, such as a walker/rollator.

2. Who can apply to the program?

For the 2025 call for applications for the regular program:

  • People with disabilities aged 10 years or older. senadis.gob.cl

  • They must be registered in the National Disability Registry (RND).

  • They must have the Social Registry of Households (RSH) and belong to up to the 70% most vulnerable of the population, in certain cases. senadis.gob.cl
In the form of the Security and Safety Subsystem Opportunities:

  • People with disabilities belonging to said subsystem. chileatiende.gob.cl

3. What does the assistive technology cover, and is a rollator included?

The program covers assistive technology that “improves or restores the functionality” of the person with a disability. Dipres
The 2024 list of assistive technologies includes a wide range of mobility devices. Chile Cuida
Although "rollator" is not always referred to by that name, if your need is for mobility and the catalog includes it, you can request it. It is important to review the "List of Technical Aids 2025 – Annex No. 1" of the call for applications. Disversa
In addition, the program indicates that each person can apply for a maximum of two technical aids in the call regular.

4. When and how to apply?

  • The application period for the Regular Program 2025 opened on Thursday, April 3rd at 12:00 PM, and closed on Tuesday, May 6th at 12:00 PM.

  • You must apply through the SENADIS online platform: portal.senadis.cl using your Unique Key.

  • For the modality of the Security and Opportunities Subsystem there is also a call for applications, specific places and a maximum amount of aid allowed.

5. What documents or information do I need to gather?

According to the SENADIS "Frequently Asked Questions":

  • Have a disability credential (or be registered in the RND).

  • Valid Social Registry of Households (where necessary).

  • Technical Assistance Indication Form (duly completed, found in the annexes of the call for proposals).

  • It may be required to specify why technical assistance is needed (displacement, functionality, etc.).

  • Check the specific requirements of the current call for proposals: age, limitations, whether assistance was already received in the previous call for proposals, etc.

6. How much does the program finance, and is there a maximum amount?

Yes:

  • In the Regular Program with general coverage, financing can cover up to a maximum of $2,200,000 CLP for each technical assistance.

  • In the Subsystem of Security and Opportunities modality, there may be full or partial coverage depending on the case. Single Social Window

  • Important: only one or two assistive devices are allowed per line.

7. What happens after applying?

  • Once the application is approved, the technical assistance is awarded. The state catalog is used to determine the type and model of the device. Chile Cuida

  • After adjudication, coordination is made the delivery of the device or the corresponding purchase/subsidy.

  • If it is not approved, there is a right to appeal or reversal according to the deadlines and conditions established by SENADIS.

8. What to consider when choosing a walker/rollator as an assistive device?

  • Verify that the walker is included in the “2025 List of Assistive Devices (Annex No. 1)”.

  • That it is suitable for your mobility context (indoor/outdoor, type of terrain, brake, adjustable height).

  • Keep technical documentation: indication form, occupational therapist's diagnosis or physiotherapist, etc.

  • If you have already received previous aid, check that you were not a beneficiary in the previous agreement if the requirement indicates it.

9. What happens if I don't qualify or the device isn't listed?

  • If the assistance you need isn't listed, you can consult with SENADIS or the regional office to see if a special case can be submitted.

  • There are also other avenues for support: municipalities, organizations for people with disabilities, and private foundations.

  • You can present your needs to your municipality so they can manage them through local programs or regional.

10. In summary

If you are in Chile and need a rollator due to a disability, follow these steps:

  1. Verify that you are registered in the RND and have updated information in the RSH.

  2. Gather medical documentation that proves your need for mobility assistance.

  3. Consult the catalog of Check if a walker is included in the SENADIS technical aid program.

  4. Apply to the current call for applications for the Technical Aids program (regular or SSyOO) within the deadline.

  5. Wait for the result, and if awarded, coordinate the delivery or purchase of the device.

  6. Save all forms, accreditations, and communications: they may be useful for follow-up or future updates.
